Quick answers – 13 October 2026
- There ___ many reasons for this. – are
- Which sentence is correct? – I prefer tea over coffee.
- Which sentence is correct? – I ordered a pizza.
- Everyone ___ invited. – is
- Which sentence is correct? – One of my friend is coming.
All 5 answers explained
1. There ___ many reasons for this. → are
Options: is, are, was, has
In a "there is / there are" sentence, the verb matches the noun that comes after it. Here that noun is reasons, which is plural, so the verb must be plural too: There are many reasons for this. "Is" and "was" are singular, and "has" does not fit the "there ___" pattern at all.
2. Which sentence is correct? → I prefer tea over coffee.
Options: I prefer tea than coffee / I prefer tea over coffee / I prefer tea to coffee / I prefer tea from coffee
"Than" goes with comparative words like more or better ("I like tea more than coffee"), not with "prefer". "From" does not work here either. "Prefer A over B" is the natural, everyday way to say you like one thing more than another, and it is the answer for today's quiz. You may also see "prefer A to B" in grammar books – both are used in English – but in the app, choose over.
3. Which sentence is correct? → I ordered a pizza.
Options: I ordered for a pizza / I ordered a pizza / I ordered to a pizza / I did order for a pizza
The verb "order" takes a direct object, so you do not need a preposition before the thing you ordered. You order a pizza, order a taxi, order a book. Adding "for" or "to" is a very common mistake. "For" is only used when you mention a person: "I ordered a pizza for my brother."
4. Everyone ___ invited. → is
Options: are, were, have, is
"Everyone" describes a whole group, but grammatically it is singular, so it always takes a singular verb: Everyone is invited. Everyone has a ticket. Everyone was happy. The same rule applies to everybody, someone, anyone and no one.
5. Which sentence is correct? → One of my friend is coming.
Options: One of my friend is coming / One of friends coming / One friends are coming / One of my friend are coming
This is the tricky one, because none of the four options is perfect. The fully correct sentence is One of my friends is coming – the noun after "one of" should be plural, and the verb should be singular because the real subject is "one". Of the choices given, "One of my friend is coming" is the closest, because it keeps the correct singular verb is. The other options either drop the verb completely or use "are", so this is the one to select.
Today's grammar rules at a glance
- After "there", match the verb to the noun that follows: there is one reason, there are many reasons.
- Use "than" with comparatives (more, better), not with "prefer".
- "Order" needs no preposition before the item: order a pizza.
- Everyone, everybody, someone and no one take a singular verb.
- "One of" + plural noun + singular verb: one of my friends is coming.
